21st March marks World Down’s Syndrome Day in more than 60 countries around the world.
This year’s chosen theme #MyFriends#MyCommunity wants to bring awareness that persons with Down Syndrome live and participate in the community, friends, peers and the public. Everyone has a right to have an opportunity to participate and have an active role in the community.
Daniela Farrugia is one clear example of a success story. Daniela is 22 years old and lives in Hamrun with her her family. Last Summer, Daniela was interviewed for a placement as kitchen assistant in one of CareMalta’s facilities and, in September, was officialy engaged with the company.
Previous to her current role, Daniela had other work exposures but this has proven to be by far the best one. She says “I am very happy to work here, I like getting up early to come to work, work with my colleagues and be of service to the residents”. Daniela’s success was sealed with the total acceptance and support the team and management gave her, which could not have been otherwise as Daniela’s joyfulness is contagious.
